Criminal Innovation Award

“When you absolutely, positively have to be there overnight.”

Forgive me a Father, it has been almost a week since my last blog. Things have been busy in my life and as I have written lately (and if you have been following me on Linkedin), you may know that I have been on the road a bit and at a few conferences.

I wanted to take just a bit if time here to announce that I have decided the recipients of this year’s “Criminal Innovation Award”.

A little over ten days ago U.S. Border Patrol agents and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers intercepted yet another smuggling scheme. Now, I have written about human trafficking before and have gone to great lengths to describe the massive problem in the United States, especially at our southern border, but this is different.

The “perps” in question were using cloned FedEx vans in El Paso.

Yes, that’s right… CLONED FedEx vans.

Agencies found the vehicles June 9 after receiving information about the scheme and found 26 migrants from Mexico and Guatemala.

Four suspected smugglers, two from the U.S. and two from Mexico were arrested.

The idea was pure genius if you ask me and if you are not already smiling, then you have no appreciation for creativity. With a FedEx Ground facility in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, the vans melted easily into the regular traffic on the area.

The vans, as you can tell from the pictures, were made to look exactly like real FedEx vehicles so hats off to the Border Patrol agents from the Santa Teresa Anti-Smuggling Unit in New Mexico and the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Apparently, this is not the first time fake FedEx vehicles have been used this way, but it has been some time.

As for these smugglers, I am awarding them the 2023 Criminal Innovation Award along with my personal “thanks” for making me laugh out loud in the middle of an otherwise crappy week.

I hope everyone had a good Father's Day yesterday, and for all you dads out there looking for new material, here you go:

The drivers of these fake FedEx trucks were all wearing glasses because the cartel had promised contact-less delivery.
